My first memories of being enamored with fashion
include a small dog by the name of Sam. At the age
of 8, I started fashioning clothing for my families
small chihuahua mix, using my mom's old Singer
Stylist sewing machine. When I was 12, I stumbled
across my first piece of vintage: a pale pink wool
cardigan with pearl buttons, that had belonged to
my late grandmother, Marilyn Calloway. I was
hooked! I collected and wore various pieces of
vintage throughout high school, many of which I
still have. Even my wedding dress was vintage-a
50's one strapped confection of lustrous silk satin,
heavily beaded with pearls and rhinestones.
When I wear vintage, it makes me feel how all
women are supposed to feel: like the most
beautiful woman in the world.
My husband and I sold our first piece of vintage on
eBay in 2003-a red LaCoste polo shirt that I hadn't
worn in years. It was then that I put my love of
vintage to work for me, and I haven't looked back. I
absolutely love what I do. It's a hard job: it's
heartbreaking, it's labor intensive, & it can be
dirty. But I wouldn't change what I do for anything.
I truly love each and every piece in my inventory.
When I ship each item to it's new home, I feel sad to
see it go, yet strangely triumphant-I feel like I've
saved a piece of our history. I take great pride in
what I do. I want you to feel every bit as fabulous
wearing that dress as I do about resurrecting it. So
