New York designer Adele Simpson born in 1903 she was a women of many talents dancing as a child in productions with Milton Berle and later becoming one of Americas most well know designer who influence 5 decade of American fashion.
At the age of 21 she finished her fashion studies at The Pratt Institute, she took a position as head designer of Ben Girshel on 7th Avenue New York then later at and just down the road for Mary Lee.
Her talent was to produce a reasonable priced clothing range which she debuted in 1949 in New York.
Her love for French Couture would see her produce a line of clothing styled on those runway designs gracing French stores.
These designs were to made up in ready to wear fashions, at this point in 1949 she bought out Mary Lee and renamed the company Adele Simpson, Inc.
Adele was inspired also by the fabrics designed for her by her Husband Wesley, in her earlier designs. For this and her wearable designs she was the best known and her skill for designing practical clothing which she did all the way through to the 1980s.
In the 1970s and 80s she was known for her shirtwaists and chemise dresses. Soon into the 1980s she retired where her daughter was to take over the business, Joan Simpson Raines.
On August 23, 1995 Adele died leaving a fashion career that touched 5 decade and for this reason she is one of the big names in vintage fashion.
